Dear friends,

Welcome to the holiday edition of the EIS newsletter News Radar. With the Holiday Season just around the corner, it’s time to round off the year with our final issue for 2005.

The first snow hit our city the other day and it was not a winter wonderland, but a winter nightmare – snow squalls reduced visibility and the icy roads slowed traffic dramatically. And in all this wind and snow and poor visibility, my car spun and hit the curb, got towed to the body shop and rendered my wallet empty just before Christmas shopping is due. Completely unaffected, our RTMS™ units kept on detecting traffic delays along the highway, sending warnings to motorists on the VM signs along the way: Traffic moving slow. How’s that for performance?!

As most of us are getting ready for the holiday season, rushing around to find the perfect gifts and plan family get togethers, we are also looking forward to some quiet time to reflect on the year that passed and think about the year ahead.

For EIS, it was a fantastic 2005 with many ups and very few downs. We reached a number of important milestones, including tremendous growth in sales, added new talent to our team, completed our rebranding, started new marketing initiatives, and much more. The year ahead looks just as exciting as we have great plans for the future and our sales, marketing and product development teams are raring to go.

In the eve of 2006, we wish you and your loved ones a warm holiday season and a happy and prosperous New Year!

Happy Holidays,
Niya Nikitova, Editor

EIS en Route to the Tian Jin Express

We’re helping China get ready for the 2008 Summer Olympics

We are happy to report that we have fulfilled one of the world’s largest orders for a traffic detection solution: 400 RTMS™ devices were recently shipped to Tian Jin, China. The RTMS will be deployed as part of a new traffic management system along 145 km of the Tian Jin Express Route which links the coastal city to Beijing.

“We are proud that the RTMS™ has been chosen for this broad strategic initiative that will bring traffic management to a whole new level in the city of Tian Jin,” said David Qian, Regional Sales Manager, Asia. “We have developed an excellent working relationship with our partners and customers here and it is especially rewarding to be recognized as the radar detection provider of choice.”

The EIS RTMS™ is a non-intrusive, low-cost, advanced sensor for the detection and measurement of traffic on roadways. Easy and safe to install, it provides per-lane presence, volume, occupancy, speed, and classification information in up to eight user-defined detection zones simultaneously.

EIS’ RTMS™ Makes It to Graceland

EIS will Provide 380 Radar Detector Units for the Traffic Management System in Memphis, TN

We are pleased to announce that we have entered an agreement with TransCore ITS, LLC to supply 380 RTMS™ traffic detection devices for the Memphis Traffic Management System.

“We are particularly excited to support TransCore as one of the traffic detection providers in this very extensive ITS project,” said Mike Ouellette, Vice President, Eastern North America. “By integrating our WATER/SQL software with speed map capabilities, we’ll assist the Memphis Traffic Management Center’s project with the acquisition of real time traffic information from the city’s surrounding highway system.”

The Wide Area Traffic Event Reporting (WATER)/SQL system collects traffic data from RTMS sensors and files it in a Structured Query Language (SQL) database for use in Advanced Traveler Information Systems (ATIS ) and speed maps, as well as report generation (tables, graphs), corridor traffic management, ATMS and incident detection, alarm and special occurrence reporting, and other applications.

The marketplace continues to confirm that our RTMS™-based traffic management solutions are the ideal choice for growth-focused, cost-conscious traffic managers. We have already deployed 350 RTMS™ units in the state of Tennessee. The Memphis project will bring the total number of radar detectors installed to well over 700.

Introducing Our Latest STAR: The EIS Traffic Reporter™

- it’s Simple, Tested, Accurate and Reliable

Are you looking to

  • Streamline and simplify traffic counting networks?
  • Dramatically reduce O&M costs?
  • Benefit from added flexibility and versatility?
  • Increase data availability and decrease report generation costs through automated centralized control?

Our Traffic Reporter™ is for you.

Traffic Reporter™ is the newest addition to our traffic solutions offering - a compact, integrated, and cost-effective enterprise-level solution for non-intrusive traffic collection and analysis for permanent and temporary traffic counting.

“We make it easy for traffic systems managers to remotely access more reliable and more accurate traffic information using our new Traffic Reporter™ solution,” said Sini Stojicic, Vice President, Business Development. “Traffic Reporter™ offers pain-free implementation and robustness thanks to the proven field experience of the RTMS™ radar sensor and our stringent product testing process.”

The RTMS™-based Traffic Reporter™ allows traffic counting operators to set up automated periodic downloads of stored traffic data (e.g. daily, weekly, monthly) into a single desktop computer from hundreds of counting stations spread out over a wide area, typically via dial-up cellular modems. The system’s software processes the collected data into groups of stations and can generate group reports in user pre-defined formats, including the US FHWA VTRIS reporting standard.

Urban Solutions: Corridor Management

Traffic managers are increasingly seeking effective solutions for corridor management in urban environments. The challenge is familiar to many: optimizing traffic flow in real time to achieve maximum capacity similar to freeways, characterized by waves of green time and minimum stops and delays.

EIS’ Spider™, an RTMS™-based, wireless solution that replaces loop detectors and lead-in wires, delivers the desired results by providing wireless presence indication (or traffic measurement parameters) in real time directly into the Controller Cabinet. Spider™ works seamlessly with third party adaptive signal control systems.

“Spider™ is the ideal solution for corridor management – it’s quick and easy to deploy, has advanced wireless capabilities and allows easy interface with existing signal control systems through contact closure,” said Sean Fraser, Technical Sales, North America. “In fact, we are currently amidst deployment of the Spider™ solution for several customers in the south-east U.S.”
